Got a call from your kids. They said they want a playhouse in the back yard. I know, you’re thinking “mini-mansion” and seeing dollar signs flash before your eyes but guess what, your kids have an altogether different picture in mind. All they want is a place with the basics—walls, roof, door, windows, and furniture. They want a compact, tidy outdoor playhouse, not a replica of your house.

If you have a bare spot in the yard, a shed that’s too small for your lawn equipment, or a corner next to the fence that needs some attention, you have the perfect beginnings of a magical playhouse for the kids!

Here are a few ideas on how to fill that bare spot with small and simple shelters where kids rule.

Add a porch, a kid-sized dutch door, and a few windows to a shed to create a clubhouse for the kids. All the neighbor kids will love you….and so will their parents!
